dadblasted pronunciation
/DAD-blas-tid/
Meaning
Mild cussing for when the wrench won't turn, the door sticks, or somebody is being mule-headed. Soft enough for church parking-lot talk. Same family as dadgum and dadblame: irritation without dropping a real swear.
How folks use it
- “This dadblasted mower won't start again.”
- “I can't get that dadblasted gate latch to hold.”
Origin and etymology
American minced oath from the 1830s–40s. Dad stands in for God, blasting stands in for damning. Southern and Appalachian speakers kept a whole set of these softened forms for everyday frustration.
