About this dictionary

Redneck Slang is a dictionary of rural Southern and Appalachian talk. A word gets a page when country folks actually say it. City slang and internet slang stay off the list.

Each word page starts with the pronunciation in plain letters, then the short meaning. After that you get what the word does in a sentence, a couple of lines you could say on a porch, and a short note on where that talk came from. The date on the page is the last time that entry was updated.

Search from the homepage when you already know the word. The homepage shows eight words for each letter. Every word that starts with that letter sits on its own page, linked from the letter and from the dictionary.

The entries are written one word at a time. We are not pulling a joke list off a meme site and slapping a title on it. If the meaning is thin, or the origin is a guess, that word waits.
