Privacy policy
Updated September 26, 2026
This policy explains what Redneck Slang does with information about people who visit the site. The site address is https://www.redneckslang.com.
Redneck Slang is a public dictionary of rural Southern and Appalachian words. It does not sell goods, take payments, or open user accounts.
Who publishes the site
The site is published under the name Redneck Slang. The pages do not list a separate company, a street address, or a phone number. The contact page at https://www.redneckslang.com/contact is the editorial contact point.
Information the site receives
The site does not ask you to create an account. It does not ask for your name, email address, or phone number. There is no comment form and no newsletter.
When your browser requests a page, the host that serves the site receives the ordinary details of that request. Those details can include your IP address, the date and time, the URL you requested, and the user-agent string your browser sends.
The search box on the homepage filters the word list inside your browser. The letters you type there are not sent to Redneck Slang as a saved search.
Some clients ask for a page as plain text instead of HTML. That request is handled like any other page view. It does not create a separate profile.
How that information is used
Request details are used to deliver the page you asked for, to keep the site online, and to refuse traffic that would overload it.
Each request is checked against a rate limit. The check uses your IP address as a key. What is stored is a counter for that address, not a record of your name or a history of the pages you read. The counter exists so the site can turn away a burst of requests and tell the browser to wait.
The dictionary text sits in a separate database. That database holds word entries: spellings, meanings, pronunciations, and the editorial notes that go with them. It does not hold visitor accounts or contact details.
Cookies and tracking
Redneck Slang does not use cookies to recognize you on a later visit, to measure advertising, or to build an analytics profile. The site does not load third-party tracking scripts.
Service providers
Three providers process data so the site can run. Each one is limited to that job.
Vercel hosts the website and processes the connection logs described above.
Upstash stores the short-lived rate-limit counters, keyed by IP address. Those counters are not turned into a traffic report.
Turso stores the dictionary entries. Those records are definitions and related editorial text.
Redneck Slang does not sell personal information. It does not share personal information for advertising.
How long information is kept
The site does not keep a visitor database. Rate-limit counters expire when the limit window closes, which is on the order of a minute. Hosting logs stay with the host for that host's own retention period. Redneck Slang does not copy those logs into a separate file of visitors.
Children
The dictionary is written for a general audience. It is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from a child.
Where the data is processed
The site is operated from the United States. If you visit from another country, the request data described in this policy is processed in the United States.
Visitors in the EEA and the United Kingdom
If you visit from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the basis for processing connection logs and rate-limit counters is legitimate interest. The interests are running the dictionary and limiting abuse.
California residents
Redneck Slang does not sell personal information, and it does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used in the California Consumer Privacy Act. The site does not collect sensitive personal information in order to profile you.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date under the title on this page changes with it. The version at https://www.redneckslang.com/privacy is the one that applies.
