everywheres pronunciation
/EV-ree-wairz/
Meaning
Same as everywhere: all over the place. Appalachian and rural Southern speakers often tack an -s onto place words like this (anywheres, somewheres, nowheres). Teachers mark it wrong on a paper. On the porch it is just how the sentence lands.
How folks use it
- “I've looked everywheres for that soap Mama used to buy.”
- “After the fair, trash was everywheres up and down the road.”
Origin and etymology
Part of an older English habit of adding -s to some place and time adverbs. Smoky Mountain English still does it (documented by Michael Montgomery and others). Cousins anywheres and nowheres ride the same pattern. Formal writing drops the s; rural talk keeps it.
